The project has been the winner of one of the 8 grants awarded by the Víctor Grífols i Lucas Foundation - Bioethics Scholarships among the 48 proposals submitted, each endowed with 5,000 euros.

The research team consists of Dr. Ainoa Biurrun-Garrido (professor on the Campus Docent Sant Joan de Déu), doctoral students Carme Perelló-Íniguez (Doctorat Ciutadania i Drets Humans. UB) and Pia Rodríguez Garrido (Doctorat Infermeria i Salut UB) and lead by Dr. Josefina Goberna-Tricas (Professor of the Escola d’Infermeria de la Universitat de Barcelona).

In the context that is being lived with the pandemic of COVID-19 and the numerous ethical questions that is raising the management of this sanitary crisis, the Fundació Víctor Grifols i Lucas- Beques de bioètica has wanted to promote specific research in this area, awarding two of the eight grants to projects related to these issues.

The goal of the project “Dar a luz en tiempos de pandemia COVID-19: implicaciones éticas de la atención sanitaria a la maternidad” is to deepen the knowledge of the various forms of vulnerability to which women who have been mothers in this time of pandemic are exposed, in order to detect training needs or necessary changes that allow respectful care with dignity and the principle of autonomy of women, at a time when the healthcare system is under stress from the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Thanks to the Grífols Grants, the team will be able to continue working on researching the ethical implications of the pandemic in the care of pregnant women.
